Russian govt to provide 345 bln rbl liquidity to banks Wed–Jan 17

MOSCOW, Jan 10 (PRIME) -- The Russian government will provide 345 billion rubles of liquidity to banks from Wednesday through January 17, according to a forecast of the central bank released on its website on Tuesday.

The central bank plans to provide 4.489 trillion rubles of liquidity for its operations with the banks in the period. The regulator expects a decrease of cash in circulation to increase the liquidity of the banking sector by 22 billion rubles. The remaining balances of ruble accounts of the banks with the central bank are to rise by 843 billion rubles.

Considering the gap between supply and demand of banking liquidity, the central bank imposed a 5.7 trillion ruble weekly limit on market operations for absorption of liquidity.

The central bank has been publishing weekly liquidity forecasts since December 2012 to improve the transparency of its activities and to inform the market of its policy.
